The Northfield Dental Clinic has a very comprehensive hygiene program. An appointment with our hygienist is more than just a cleaning. It is opportunity to discuss any concerns you may have about sensitive teeth, periodontal gum disease, teeth whitening, receding gums or any other hygiene-related questions.
At your first hygiene appointment your overall gum health will be assessed. This gives us a baseline to refer to in the future and gives us information on how to tailor a hygiene program for you. A thorough intraoral and extraoral exam will be performed at each appointment as well as a visual screening of any lesions or changes to the oral structures.
The average patient is seen for a hygiene appointment every six months and the hygienist will discuss the frequency with which you should schedule your hygiene appointments to ensure your optimal oral health.
Depending on your specific situation a dentist can do a check-up exam after your cleaning to diagnose and changes to your teeth and gums. Early detection of tooth decay is extremely important to the longevity of your teeth, and we want to make sure that your oral health is closely monitored and maintained over time.
